Cover Typography Service — Typesetting and Layout Only

You have the photograph, the illustration or the AI image you want to use. What you do not have is a title that sits on it properly, an author name in the right place, or a file that survives a store’s compression. This is typography only: your image, our type, and a cover that looks designed rather than captioned.

What you receive

  • Title, subtitle and author typesetting with a deliberate hierarchy — one dominant element, one supporting line, one signature.
  • Spacing and alignment handled properly: optical margins, consistent leading, and no text sitting in a busy part of the image.
  • Contrast treatment where the image needs it — a subtle gradient, shadow or scrim rather than a black box.
  • Store-ready exports: 1600×2560 for KDP, 1600×2400 for the other stores, JPEG under the size limits.
  • Editable source so a series title can be reset in minutes.

How it works

  1. Send the image at the highest resolution you have, plus title, subtitle and author name.
  2. Tell us the genre — the type for a thriller is not the type for a memoir, and we set to category expectations.
  3. First setting within two working days, usually two type options on the same image.
  4. One round of amends, then all exports and the source file.

What good cover typography does

It tells the eye where to start. Readers look at the title first, the author second, and the image third — if the type is fighting the picture, none of that happens. It also has to survive compression: thin script fonts and low-contrast serifs disintegrate when a store resizes the image to 120 px, which is why we test every setting at thumbnail size before delivery.

Why typesetting goes wrong on self-made covers

The usual failure is not the font choice but the spacing: a title stretched to touch both edges of the image, an author name floating in a corner at a different angle, three subtitle lines stacked with no lead. It reads as a caption because nothing is deciding the order. The second failure is contrast, white type over a bright sky or a thin serif over a busy texture. Both are fixable without touching the picture, which is precisely what this service does: the image stays yours, the type is set with a hierarchy, and the two start working together.

Translations and series resets

Titles change length in other languages. A two-word English title can become a long German compound or a longer Spanish phrase, and the setting that fitted the original will not fit the new one. Because the editable source comes with the job, a translated edition is a few minutes of retyping rather than a new commission, and we will reset the first translation for you if the translated title arrives with the original brief.

Frequent questions

Can you also retouch the image?

Basic grading and clean-up are included. Heavy retouching, compositing or extending the image is a design job, quoted separately.

Will the fonts be licensed?

Yes, all fonts used are commercially licensed, and we tell you which ones so future work stays consistent.

Can you match my series?

Send the existing covers and the new title will inherit their grid, typeface and spacing exactly.

Send your image — title, author and genre are all we need to set a first version.
