The upload screen is where a finished book meets a form that punishes carelessness. A wrong royalty option, a territory left unselected, a category that does not exist, an interior with one image below 300 dpi — each produces a rejection or, worse, a live listing that quietly earns half of what it should.
What you receive
- A complete ebook listing — title, subtitle, series, contributors, description, seven keywords, three categories, age range and language.
- Pricing that maximises royalty across marketplaces, with the 70% bands checked and currency conversions set deliberately.
- Territories and rights selected to match your contracts rather than left at the default.
- Print edition setup where wanted: trim, interior file, wrap, ISBN and a proofing checklist.
- Post-publication verification — the listing live, the look-inside working, the categories applied and the cover showing at thumbnail size.
How the publication runs
- Prepare the files and check them against KDP’s current specifications before opening the form.
- Fill the metadata from the researched sheet rather than inventing it at the keyboard.
- Set price and territories, then review the royalty preview per marketplace.
- Submit, wait, verify — then run the post-publication checks and fix anything the store has rearranged.
The fields that cost authors money
The royalty option is the big one: 70% is available only inside a price band and depends on file size for delivery costs, and it is not available in every territory. Series data, if omitted, loses the series page. Categories chosen from the wrong level of the tree lose chart placement. And the “look inside” percentage, set too low, gives a browsing reader nothing to sample — which is the single most common reason a technically perfect listing does not convert.
Rejections, and how to avoid the loop
Most rejections are file-based: an image at insufficient resolution, a table of contents pointing at a missing anchor, a cover with the title too close to the trim edge, or a copyright page contradicting the metadata. We check each of those before submitting, which is why the upload usually goes live first time. When a rejection does arrive, the fix is diagnosed from the exact message rather than guessed at by re-uploading the same file.
After publication
A book that is live is not a book that is finished. We check the listing in a private browser window, confirm the categories applied, look at the cover at thumbnail size next to competitors, and confirm the print and ebook editions are linked. That last check is easy to miss and it splits reviews between two listings, which damages both.

Frequent questions
Do you need my Amazon login?
No. We prepare everything and either walk you through the submission or work from an authorised session you control.
Can you publish to other stores too?
Yes — Apple, Kobo and Google are separate setups, each with its own metadata quirks.
How long until the book is live?
Usually 24 to 72 hours for the ebook; print proofs add a few days depending on shipping.
Publish my book — send the final files and the metadata you want used.
